New year's eve in California ideas?

I want to do something fun for new years eve but I am not really feeling the whole party scene. I live in so cal but am willing to travel around in cali for new years. Live music and fireworks would be cool. Or even going to a pretty landmark ( maybe like the hoover dam or something) would be nice. any suggestions?
